Online casino gambling started its journey to legalization in the US in 2011 when each state was given the permission to regulate online casino gambling. That year, the states of New York and Illinois were allowed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to sell lottery tickets online. However, online casino gaming continues to be unregulated in most states, with the majority of efforts for legalizing gambling activities being focused on mobile sports betting.
Since the PASPA Act was overturned in 2018, online sports betting has become legal in more than 34 states, with others also working on introducing a legal system for mobile sports wagers. However, online casino gambling is currently legal in just a few states, with some of them having strict limits on the forms of legal gambling that state residents can enjoy.
In December 2011, Nevada also joined the Garden State in legalizing online casino games, but the only form that was allowed was online poker. It took the Silver State more than a year to launch its first operational poker website, but now the market enjoys more than a decade of legal operation.
Delaware legalized online casino operations in 2012, becoming the second state to legalize online casino games. Despite having a fully operational iGaming industry for over a decade, the Diamond State has issued permission for the operation of only three casino sites.
In 2017, Pennsylvania also introduced legal online casino gaming to its residents, with the Keystone State implementing a regulatory framework to combat black-market gambling and also increase its tax revenue. Taxes imposed on online casino gambling in Pennsylvania are rather high, with slots revenue being taxed at a 54% rate, while wins on table games are taxed at 14%.
The next state to join the online casino legalization in the US was Michigan, which introduced a legal framework for online casino gambling in 2019. Just two years after the state introduced legal online casino gaming, it generated $1.40 billion from online casinos operating in the Wolverine State. Michigan has licensed the operations of 15 online casinos but it may add even more brands to the list of licensed casino sites as online casino gaming generates the bulk of the state’s total gaming revenue.
In 2021, Connecticut also joined the rest of the states that have legalized online casino gambling along with online poker, retail, and online sports betting. The two tribal casinos operating in Connecticut have also been authorized to offer all online and land-based gambling forms that have been legalized in the Constitution State.
NJ Online Casino Revenue
New Jersey’s overall online gaming industry, which includes online casinos, sports betting, and online poker is considered the biggest iGaming sector in the states. Each month, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement is providing official iGaming revenue reports for all eight licensed online casio operators.
In January 2023, the total online casino revenue reported by the eight online casino licensees in New Jersey amounted to $152.9 million. Compared to $137.8 million collected in January 2022, the January 2023 figures reflected a 10.9% year-over-year growth. The total Internet gross revenue tax that was paid for that month was $22.9 million.

For the year ended August 31, 2023, the state of New Jersey reported total gaming revenue of $3.8 billion. Meanwhile, the total online casino revenue generated by the eight licensed Internet gaming providers for the year ended August 2023, amounted to $1.2 billion. That meant that the online casino industry for the year-to-date period in August 2023 accounted for almost 33% of the total GGR for that period.
Leading Online Casino Operators in NJ for 2023
The top three Atlantic City Casino Licensees with the highest Internet win revenue in January 2023 included:
- Borgata with online casino revenue of $40.8 million
- Golden Nugget with online casino revenue of $40.6 million
- Resorts Digital, recording Internet wins of $40.2 million
Based on revenue data published by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), the three entities which reported highest Internet Win in February 2023 included:
- Borgata with Internet wins of $39.7 million
- Golden Nugget with online casino revenue of $36.5 million
- Resorts Digital with Internet wins of $36.0 million
The data for March 2023 show that the three online casinos, which recorded the highest online gaming revenues for the month were:
- Resorts Digital, recording online casino revenue of $44.9 million
- Borgata reported Internet wins of $43.9 million for March 2023
- Golden Nugget with Internet wins of $42.7 million
April 2023 Internet Win numbers revealed that the three Atlantic City online casinos that showed the best performance were:
- Borgata with $43.2 million online casino revenue
- Resorts Digital with online casino wins of $41.7 million
- Golden Nugget, which reported Internet win of also about $41.7 million but Resorts Digital beat Golden Nugget by a slim margin
In May 2023, which was a strong month for the online casino industry in New Jersey, the three online casinos, which generated the highest Internet Win were:
- Borgata with online casino revenue of $44.0 million
- Golden Nugget with total internet win revenue of $43.5 million
- Resorts Digital with online casino wins of $41.7 million
In June 2023, the three online casino operators that contributed the most to the industry’s online casino revenue increase were:
- Golden Nugget with online casino revenue of $41.8 million
- Borgata with Internet win revenue of $39.4 million
- Resorts Digital with $35.6 million of online casino revenue for June 2023

The latest published Internet Win data, showed that the best online casino revenue performers for August 2023 were:
- Resorts Digital with Internet wins of $42.3 million in August 2023
- Golden Nugget with online casino revenue of $40.8 million in April
- Borgata, which reported online gaming revenue of $40.2 million
Online Gaming Revenue in Nevada
While Nevada was one of the first states to introduce legal online gaming, the only form of interactive gaming it has licensed is online poker. Up until February 2015, the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) was publishing data on interactive poker revenue in its monthly GGR reports. However, at the beginning of 2015, the state’s gaming regulator decided to stop reporting online poker revenue numbers as the condition of at least three separate licensees reporting online poker revenue each month was no longer met.
In 2013, the Silver State marked the start of legal online poker but it took the state’s regulator almost a year before it could publish official revenue numbers as there was a requirement that the monthly revenue data must include the online poker wins amassed by at least three operators. In February 2014, Real Gaming joined Ultimate Poker and WSOP.com, meeting the regulator’s requirement for publishing official data on online poker revenue in Nevada. Unfortunately, in February 2015, the number of active online poker operators was reduced once again as Ultimate Poker shut down its online poker room in Nevada. This forced the NGCB to stop including interactive poker revenue numbers in its monthly revenue reports.
The only official data we can use to determine the way online poker revenue was contributing to the Silver State’s GGR growth is to compare the interactive poker revenue figures published by the NGCB between February 2014 and November 2015. What is more, we can take into account the NGCB’s estimates of $7.7 million being generated between the launch of online poker in 2013 and January 2014. After making month-over-month estimations, we get that the change generated in December 2013 and January 2014 was roughly about $2.05 million.
Currently, WSOP.com holds a monopoly over online poker operations in Nevada, as it has remained the only licensee offering interactive poker in the Silver State. That means that the NGCB continues to exclude interactive poker from its monthly gaming revenue reports. Unfortunately, there is no clear indication of new operators entering the Nevada online poker market any time soon, which means that the condition of basing revenue on the operations of at least three online poker operators may not be met soon.

At the moment of writing this article, the Delaware Lottery has published official revenue numbers up until August 2023. Despite that, we can take a look at the first eight months of 2023 to conclude that while moving at a slow pace, the online casino industry of Delaware is showing some year-over-year growth, which means that this sector has a somewhat significant role in the Diamond State’s total GGR growth.
Contribution of Online Casino Operators to GGR in Delaware in 2023
In January 2023, the biggest contributor out of the three licensed online casinos in Delaware was Delaware Park with iGaming revenue of $433,104.
In February 2023, Delaware Park was again the biggest contributor to Delaware’s online casino revenue generated for that month, accounting for about 42.9% of the total interactive gambling revenue of the Diamond State for the second month of 2023.
In March 2023, there was a new top performer when it came to online casino revenue generated from the three online gaming operators in Delaware, with Bally’s Dover taking the lead with a revenue of $555,565.
April’s top performer with the highest revenue generated from online casino operations in Delaware was yet again Bally’s Dover, with revenue of $457,240.
In May 2023, there was a clear top performer among the three online casinos licensed to operate in Delaware. With iGaming revenue of $509,183, Delaware Park accounted for 41.3% of the total online casino revenue in the Diamond State for May 2023.
In the month of June, Bally’s Dover took back its first place as the biggest revenue contributor for that month. With iGaming revenue of $451,137, the operator was responsible for 39.4% of the Delaware State’s total online casino revenue.
In July 2023, there was yet again a change in the top performer for the month, with Delaware Park becoming the online casino operator who had the biggest contribution to the total online gaming revenue in the Diamond State in July.
In August 2023, Delaware Park enjoyed a second consecutive month of being the online casino, which generated the highest revenue among the three online casino licenses in Delaware. With iGaming revenue of $488,308, it represented 44.1% of the whole iGaming market in the diamond state in August.
Pennsylvania Online Casino Revenue
Every month, the Gaming Control Board of Pennsylvania updates its revenue reports, adding the official figures for each month of the current fiscal year. The Keystone State has decided to start each fiscal year with the month of July and end the period in June. At the moment of writing this article, there is a full revenue report on the fiscal 2022/2023 year, which includes the figures reported by online casinos between July 2022 and June 2023. There have also been reports for July 2023 and August 2023, which are the two first months of fiscal 2023/2024.
The fiscal 2022/2023 year started with July 2022, during which the licensed online casino operators in Pennsylvania generated interactive gambling revenue of $98.6 million, marking a 11.2% year-over-year growth compared to $88.7 million generated in July 2021.

For the months comprising the fiscal 2022/2023 year, there were several definite top performers when it came to generating the highest online casino revenue in Pennsylvania each month. While one operator decided to leave the market, by the end of the year, another was licensed to enter the online casino sector in the Keystone State. At the beginning of fiscal 2023/2024, even more major casino brands joined the Pennsylvania online gaming market, contributing to the state’s increasing online gaming and total gaming revenue.
In July 2022, the top brand generating the highest online gaming revenue included:

In September 2022, the online casino operators who helped the online gaming revenue increase the most included:

In October 2023, the online casino industry of Pennsylvania had the same top operators who generated the highest iGaming revenue for that month. Those were:
- Penn National, which recorded online casino revenue of $52.7 million, accounting for 42.3% of the iGaming market revenue
- The Rivers – Philadelphia, which reported October interactive gaming revenue of $29.3 million

- The Rivers – Philadelphia was the second-best in revenue accumulation in December, bringing the Keystone State iGaming revenue of $28.5 million
- Valley Forge was the third top contributor to the state’s interactive gaming revenue, generating $26.9 million
For the first time since the beginning of the fiscal 2022/2023 year, in January 2023, there was a different distribution of the revenue among the three top online casino operators, with Valley Forge taking the second place, while The Rivers – Philadelphia become the third-best in generating the highest online gaming revenue in Pennsylvania for that month:
- Penn National generated online casino revenue of $55.1 million, which represented 41.4% of the online casino revenue for January 2023
- Valley Forge brought the Keystone State online casino revenue of $29.7 million for that month
- The Rivers-Philadelphia was just a little behind Valley Forge with interactive gaming revenue of $28.5 million
February 2023 was great month for the iGaming industry of Pennsylvania, with the three online casinos that brought the state the biggest online gaming revenues being:
- Penn National with online casino revenue of $56.5 million, which represented 42.9% of the online casino revenue for January 2023

After Presque Isle left the online gaming sector of Pennsylvania, in March 2023, the Keystone was already relying only on nine operators for its iGaming revenue. The top three contributors during that month were again:

- Valley Forge, which generated online casino revenue of $31.8 million for March 2023

The monthly online gaming revenue of Pennsylvania had another increase in April 2023, with the three gaming entities that helped the revenue growth with the largest amounts being:
- Penn National with online gaming revenue of $58.5 million, which was about 42.6% of the whole online casino revenue for that month
- Valley Forge, which generated iGaming revenue of $31.2 million in April 2023
- The Rivers-Philadelphia with online gaming gross revenue of $26.1 million
May 2023 was another month of iGaming sector revenue expansion, with the Keystone State enjoying year-over-year revenue growth. The three gaming operators that had the highest revenue contribution for that month included:
- Penn National with reported online gaming revenue of $58.4 million for May 2023
- Valley Forge, which generated online gaming revenue of $29.5 million for that month
- The Rivers – Philadelphia with interactive gaming revenue of $29.4 million for May 2023
June 2023 was the last month of the fiscal 2022/2023 year, and had the same usual top performers at the top of the list with iGaming revenue contributors in Pennsylvania. In addition to that, the online casino sector expanded, with Bally’s Pennsylvania entering the market:
- Penn National was yet again the company with the biggest online gaming revenue of $57.8 million, accounting for 42.7% of the total online gaming revenue for June 2023
- Valley Forge was the second-biggest revenue contributor with online gaming wins of $28.1 million
- The Rivers – Philadelphia brought the Keystone State online gaming revenue of $27.0 million
For the fiscal 2022/2023 year, there were three online gaming operators who continuously generated the highest revenues for each month of the period. These were:
- Penn National with total gross online gaming revenue for 2022/2023 of $648.2 million
- The Rivers – Philadelphia with total interactive gaming revenue of $330.9 million
- Valley Forge, which accumulated total online gaming revenue of $309.3 million
At the moment of writing this article, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has released the official revenue reports for fiscal 2023/2024 up until August 2023 but experts believe that the Keystone State will continue to experience even bigger growth in iGaming revenue in the upcoming months.
In July 2023, the Keystone State had its iGaming market mark another month of growth, with the three leading operator who contributed the most to the revenue increase being:
- Penn National with the biggest online gaming revenue of $54.4 million, accounting for 40.9% of the total online gaming revenue for July 2023

August 2023 saw another online casino operator entering the interactive gaming market of Pennsylvania, with Golden Nugget recording its first revenue report in the Keystone State in August. Meanwhile, the three biggest contributors to the total iGaming revenue of the state remained:
- Penn National with August 2023 online gaming revenue of $60.3 million, accounting for 41.6% of the state’s full online casino revenue
- Valley Forge, which reported online gaming revenue of $32.4 million for that month

Michigan Online Casino Revenue in 2023
Michigan is one of the states with the most successful legalized online casino industry, which at the time of writing this article has generated more than $1 billion in tax revenue since its launch date. With the exception of February, the 15 licensed online casinos in the Great Lakes State generated over $150 million in the first eight months of 2023. Each month, the Michigan Gaming Control Board releases revenue reports on online gaming numbers generated by the casino operators licensed in the Great Lakes State. Even though tribal casinos do not report revenue to the regulator, their online partners do.
Michigan’s online casinos started the year 2023 with a rather strong start, with online casinos recording total internet gaming revenue of $121.2 million for January 2023. This number reflected a month-on-month growth of 0.6% and a 26.8% increase compared to January 2022 online gaming revenue in Michigan.

Biggest Contributors to Michigan’s Online Casino Revenue in 2023
Michigan’s 23 tribal and three commercial casinos have been authorized to apply for online casino licenses and offer interactive slots, table games, and other forms of online casino games to residents of the Great Lakes State. The main brands that usually have the biggest contribution to the state’s iGaming revenue include BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings. While the first one has entered the Michigan market through a license issued to MGM Grand Detroit, FanDuel and DraftKings have partnered with MotorCity Casino and Bay Mills Resort & Casinos respectively.
In January 2023, the three casino operators that contributed the most to the Great Lakes State’s online gaming revenue were:
- MGM Grand Detroit, which accumulated $52.8 million through BetMGM Detroit’s operations
- MotorCity Casino with iGaming revenue of $29.0 million thanks to FanDuel Michigan
- Bay Mills Indian Community, which reported online gaming revenue of $26.2 million with the help of DraftKings
In February 2023, Michigan’s online casinos failed to exceed the $150 million mark but they still managed to record a year-over-year growth. The three operators that helped the state achieve the said growth were:
- MGM Grand Detroit, with online gaming revenue of $48.4 million generated thanks to BetMGM Detroit’s operations
- MotorCity Casino with interactive gaming revenue of $29.5 million thanks to FanDuel Michigan
- Bay Mills Indian Community, which reported online casino revenue of $26.9 million
The top three operators generating the highest online casino revenues in Michigan remained the same in March 2023. These included the casinos operating BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings, with the first one representing 32.7% of the total iGaming revenue amount for the second month of 2023.
- MGM Grand Detroit reported March online casino revenue of $56.2 million
- MotorCity Casino had the second-biggest contribution to the state’s iGmaing revenue by generating $34.2 million in March
- Bay Mills Indian Community generated $31.6 million through the online casino operation of DraftKings
In April, the online casinos operating in Michigan were able to generate online gaming revenue of above $150 million, bringing the Great Lakes State revenue of $ 159.4 million, which reflected a 20.3% growth when compared to results from April 2022. The three casino operators who brought the state the biggest interactive gaming revenue included:
- MGM Grand Detroit with online casino revenue of $51.2 million in April 2023
- MotorCity Casino enjoying online gaming revenue of $31.3 million
- Bay Mills Indian Community, which revealed online casino revenue of $ 28.1 million
In May 2023, the online casino sector in Michigan marked another month of revenue increase, with the main contributors to the state’s increasing iGaming revenue were yet again BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings, with BetMGM’s operations accounting for about 31.5% of the total Michigan market’s online casino revenue.
- MGM Grand Detroit reported May online gaming revenue of $47.4 million, generating the highest amount for the state in that month
- MotorCity Casino was responsible for about 19.9% of Michigan’s online casino revenue in May, generating about $30.0 million from online casino operations
- Bay Mills Indian Community enjoyed a virtual casino revenue of $27.0 million in May 2023
In June, casino operators were able to mark yet another strong month of online casino revenue above $150 million, with the three top operators bringing the Great Lakes State the biggest online gaming revenues being yet again:
- MGM Grand Detroit with June online gaming revenue of $49.2 million won thanks to BetMGM Detroit
- MotorCity Casino’s partner FanDuel was also very active in June, accounting for 19.2% of the state’s online gaming revenue by bringing Michigan revenue of $29.1 million
- Bay Mills Indian Community and DraftKings were able to ensure revenue of $27.2 million to further boost the June online casino revenue level
July 2023 marked yet another successful month for the online gaming sector in Michigan, with retail and tribal casinos and their partners generating $153.6 million in online casino revenue. The usual top three that had the biggest contribution to the online gaming revenue surge were yet again BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings:
- MGM Grand Detroit reported July iGaming revenue of $49.0 million, accounting for 31.9% of the entire online casino revenue generated by a total of 15 online casinos
- MotorCity Casino recorded online gaming revenue for July 2023 of $30.3 million
- Bay Mills Indian Community, through the operation of DraftKings, managed to record online casino revenue of $28.7 million
August 2023 online casino revenue helped Michigan to become the fastest state to exceed $1 billion in tax revenue lifetime. Meanwhile, the online gaming revenue reported for that month surpassed $150 million yet again, with BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings being the main three contributors for the revenue increase.
- MGM Grand Detroit reported interactive casino revenue of $44.0 million, representing 28.9% of the whole iGaming revenue amount for August
- MotorCity Casino managed to generate online casino revenue of $33.2 million in August 2023
- Bay Mills Indian Community reported iGaming revenue of $28.2 million generated for the month of August thanks to DraftKings
West Virginia Online Casino Revenue in 2023
Legal online casino gambling was launched in West Virginia in 2020, with DraftKings becoming the first online casino website to start operating in the Mountain State. It was then followed by BetMGM, BetRivers, FanDuel, and Caesars Casino. The state’s online gambling regulator is the West Virginia Lottery, which also provides regularly updated reports on Mountain State’s online casinos revenue.
In 2023, the Mountain State’s online casinos managed to accumulate all five of West Virginia’s highest totals for online casino revenue:
- June: $16.4 million
- July: $14.4 million
- March: $14.3 million
- February: $13.1 million
- April: $13 million
The first month of 2023 showed an uptick in every gambling handle in West Virginia’s gaming market, with online gaming being the driving force for the industry’s growth in January. Revenue reports for the first month of 2023 revealed a total interactive gaming revenue of $10.9 million, which represented a 6.3% month-on-month increase compared to December’s $10.3 million. Meanwhile, compared to results from the same period of the previous year, January 2023 online casino revenue reflected a year-over-year growth of more than 60%.

The online casino figures for fiscal 2022/2023 showed a dramatic improvement in the Mountain State’s iGaming field. The total revenue for the year ended June 2023 amounted to $139 million, which indicated a 61.3% increase compared to the total revenue of $86.2 million generated by online casinos for fiscal 2021/2022. There has also been a serious increase in taxes collected from online casino operations, with FY 2022/2023 numbers reaching $20.8 million, while taxes for the same period in 2021/2022 amounted to $12.9 million. The net profit of online casinos in West Virginia also increased from $11 million in fiscal 2021/2022 to $17.7 million in fiscal 2022/2023.
The new fiscal year began with online casinos struggling to reach the highest revenue of March ($14.3 million). Online gaming figures for July 2023 reached $11.4 million, which marked a month-on-month dip from $12 million won in June. That said, the number still reflected a year-over-year growth compared to July 2020.
August 2023 marked a revenue decline for the iGaming industry in West Virginia, with online casinos reporting a total interactive gambling revenue of $11.6 million. This reflected a slight increase of 1.8% compared to the previous month but was still far from surpassing the $14 million mark that online casinos exceeded in March.

Online Casino Operators Contribution to West Virginia’s Online Gaming Revenue for Fiscal 2022/2023
By August 2023, West Virginia saw its online casino sector expanding, with a total of nine online casinos operating in August to boost the Mountain State’s interactive gaming revenue. While WynnBet ceased its operations in July, WynnBet launched in august as the new ninth online casino operating in West Virginia. The casino partnered with Mardi Gras and managed to generate $349,897 for its launch in August 2023. As for the operators who typically has the highest online gaming revenue each month, The Greenbrier is typically the favorite as it relies on brands like FanDuel, BetMFM, and Golden Nugget for its interactive gaming revenue:
In January, the online gaming industry in West Virginia enjoyed a strong start to the calendar year 2023. The leading operators who enjoyed the biggest online casino revenue for that month was Greenbrier who enjoyed combined revenue of $1503 million thanks to its partners BetMGM Sportsbook WV and FanDuel Casino WV.
Hollywood Charles Town came second, generating $3.9 million in online gaming revenue thanks to its main apps DraftKings Casino WV and PointsBet Casino WV. Mountaineer had the lowest contribution to January’s online gaming revenue, generating $1.3 million through casino brands like BetRivers WV and Caesars Casino WV.
In February 2023, the top online gaming revenue contributor remained Charles Town, which reported revenue of $6.4 million, generated through the operations of BetMGM Sportsbook WV and FanDuel Casino WV. Meanwhile, Charles Town remained second-best in generating online gaming revenue, with brands like DraftKings Casino WV and PointsBet Casino WV helping the operator report collective online gaming revenue of about $4.5 million. BetRivers WV and Caesars Casino WV managed to bring Mountaineer Casino revenue of nearly $1.5 million, ranking it third among all three online casino operators.
While being in constant competition with each other, Greenbrier and Hollywood Charles Town continued to generate somewhat similar revenue numbers, with the latter taking the first place in April. Hollywood Charles Town managed to generate the biggest revenue for the month thanks to its main apps DraftKings Casino WV and PointsBet Casino WV, which brought the operator revenue of $5.2 million. The Greenbrier came extremely close thanks to revenue generated by brands like BetMGM Sportsbook WV and FanDuel Casino WV, bringing the state $5.1 million. Mountaineer was third in April, with BetRivers WV and Caesars WV helping the operator to generate revenue of $1.7 million.
In the end of June, a new online casino brand entered West Virginia’s iGaming sector, with WynnBet launched its online casino in West Virginia through a partnership with Mardi Gras Casino. Through the first eight days of July 2023, WynnBet reported a total wagered amount of $2.4 million, revenue of $133.292, and taxes amounting to $19,993. These numbers placed the brand in close competition with WV online casinos lBetRivers and Caesars.
For the first half of July, official revenue numbers revealed that Hollywood Charles Town managed to generate $371.867 in revenue, while Greenbrier’s revenue numbers for that period reached $660,264. WynnBet’s online casino revenue for the first half of July reached $294,951, showing the brand was quickly becoming a strong competitor for West Virginia’s online gaming revenue share.
Surprisingly, only one month after it had launched its online casino, WynnBet announced its plans to cease its operations in West Virginia. Meanwhile, Betly, which had previously ceased its sportsbook operation, relaunched in August, bringing the Mountain State a brand new online casino and sports betting app.
In August, The Greenbrier was still the operators that reported the highest online gaming revenue, with FanDuel WV Casino, BetMGM WV Casino, and Golden Nugget WV Casino bringing the operator revenue of $5.1 million. The second place was reserved for Hollywood Charles town, which relied on its brands DraftKings WV Casino, PointsBet WV Casino, and Barstool WV Casino to generate a revenue that reached $4.4 million in August 2023. Online casinos Caesars Palace WV Casino and BetRivers WV Casino placed Mountaineer in third place, with revenue of $1.8 million. The last place was for Mardi Gras, which reported revenue of $349,897 through the operations of the newly launched Betly WV Casino.
Online Casino Revenue in Connecticut 2023
After legalizing online casino gaming, Connecticut licensed the operations of two online casinos, with players based in the Constitution State currently being able to choose between Mohegan Sun Casino (via Mohegan and FanDuel) and DraftKings (via Foxwoods). While having only two options for online gaming, in May 2023, Connecticut became the state with the fastest-growing iGaming market, which reached a 57% annual growth rate.
Launched at the end of 2021, the online gaming industry of Connecticut managed to reach a record high amount by the end of 2022. Connecticut’s state revenue share from interactive casino operations in December amounted to $4.089 million, up 4.1% from November’s $3.927 million.
In January 2023, the two online casinos of the Nutmeg State generated combined gaming revenue of over $30 million, which marked nearly a 60% year-over-year increase. Compared to $22.8 million reported by online gaming operators in Connecticut for December 2022, the January 2023 results marked a 32.3% month-on-month growth.

Online Casino Market Share in Connecticut Based on Revenue Generated in 2023

In May 2023, DraftKings continued to surpass its rival, reporting $14.9 million in revenue for that month, which represented a 56% market share.
In June 2023, DraftKings continued to hold the biggest share, with a revenue of $14.9 million, representing 53% of the market. Meanwhile, Mohegan got closer to its rival, reporting revenue of $11.8 million, which reflected a market share of 46%.
The two online casinos in Connecticut had a July market share similar to the one of previous months. DraftKings reported revenue of $12.3 million, which represented a market share of 55%. Meanwhile, its rivals recorded July 2023 revenue of $10.1 million, which earned them a market share of 45%.
In August 2023, the market share of both DraftKings and Mohegan (FanDuel) remained pretty much the same. DraftKings reported revenue of $14.8 million, reflecting a market share of 55%, while the remaining 45% was left to FanDuel, which reported revenue of $11.1 million for August 2023.
