Roman Power Slot Review

This June release from Microgaming and Spin Play Games takes players back to the heyday of the Roman Empire. Are you ready to join the legion, don your armor, and adventure across the known world?

Being new to the online slot scene, Spin Play Games is still finding its feet and its own unique design style. Roman Power is played on a 5×4 grid across 20 paylines. The high volatility makes payouts less frequent, but with a potential win of 4,000x your bet, a victory can be massive.

Symbols and Winning Combinations of Roman Power Slot

Winning CombinationsRoman Power was developed by Spin Play Games exclusively for Microgaming. This small studio has crafted a slot that is simple in both design and gameplay and is light on features.

The backdrop of Roman Power features the sun setting over a body of water, although you might miss it if you do not pay close attention when the slot first loads. The scene is dominated by shades of red and orange, with clouds drifting lazily across the top of the screen.

The 5×3 reel grid occupies most of the screen and is illustrated to a high standard. The reels are framed by a classic Roman marble building, complete with Ionic columns. The rich burgundy-colored reels house eleven beautifully drawn symbols: ten regular symbols and one wild. They are:

  • Low worth = A, K, Q, J, 10
  • Medium worth = Crossed swords, Bracers, Shield
  • High worth = Armor, Helmet
  • Wild = Roman soldier

Roman-themed slots are always a hit. The theme is very popular among developers, and you can find an overabundance of them online. As well designed as certain aspects of this slot are, there is nothing particularly new or unique about it.

On the lowest betting level, three 10s landing in a winning combination will award $0.10, whereas five helmets will pay $2.50.

Bonus Features of Roman Power Slot

Bonus imageMicrogaming is well known for releasing slots that include several, often innovative, bonus features. Roman Power bucks this trend by being incredibly light on features.

The first feature is the Expanding Wild Roman soldier symbol. The wild can substitute for all other symbols. Wilds expand to cover an entire reel if a winning combination is present or if expansion would create one.

The second and final feature can only be triggered when one or more Expanded Wild symbols are present on the reels. This feature is the Power Multipliers. Expanded Wilds have a chance to trigger a multiplier of x2, x3, x5, x7, or x10.

Roman Power also includes a quick spin mode. With this mode enabled, all reel animations are switched off, and winning combination animations are also disabled. Quick spin mode is great for playing on a mobile device, as it can help conserve battery power. It is also a good choice when you want a few spins but do not have a lot of time.

You will also find a help icon in the top-left corner. Clicking on this feature opens a new window with detailed information about the slot, its options, betting levels, and other useful details.

Verdict

In our opinion, odd decisions were made during the development of Roman Power. Usually, high-volatility slots incorporate interesting gameplay and/or a variety of bonus features to keep players engaged. Roman Power does none of this, and the potential payout of up to 4,000 times the bet is not enough to attract slot fans.

If you are a fan of the Romans, we recommend playing the free version; otherwise, give this slot a miss.
